Core Program Culinary Retreat

This eco-friendly Mountain Retreat and Cafe is located in Southeastern Arizona in the mystical Chiricahua Mountains, an easy 1-1/2 hour drive from the Tucson airport.

Nestled in 400 acres of pristine old oaks, junipers and pines with a beautiful pond and wildlife galore, Sunglow is surrounded by the Coronado National Forest. Enveloped by towering volcanic rock sculptures and massive stone columns, this stunning area offers some of the most spectacular geological wonders in the world. New paragraph

Following a recent two-million renovation, Sunglow’s accommodations include nine beautifully designed casitas, each with their own theme, some with fireplaces, patios and spectacular views.  The Sunglow Café brings gourmet foods to a new level and supports our retreat mission by serving “back-to-the-basics” natural, organic and locally grown foods when available. 

Small and intimate, upscale, but still laid back and comfortable, our  culinary retreat experience offers an excellent menu of healthy ingredients and culinary skills; theory you can immediately apply to your own life, great food, excellent accommodations, adventure, relaxation, and an opportunity to discover the solitude and beauty of nature.

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE

Our retreat begins at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday with orientation, introductory lecture/workshop, and welcome dinner, and completes on Tuesday at noon following our brunch class.   Major airlines provide service to both Phoenix and Tucson airports along with car rental services.   Enrollment confirmation, driving directions, itinerary and retreat week details will be e-mailed upon receipt of the retreat deposit.  Click here for Core Program Content and Agenda

WEATHER

The southeastern region of Arizona is a year-round oasis. Late October daytime temperatures range in the mid to high 70’s and night time temperatures in the mid 40’s.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Accommodation fees are in addition to the program fee and due 60 days before the retreat start date.

4 - One bedroom casitas:  queen bed, bathroom
$119 per night for one or two people    

4 -Two room casitas:   2 queen beds, bathroom, fireplace in each
$149 per night (one or two or three people   

Casita Grande:
$109 per night (one bed for one  or two people)
$129 per night (two beds for one or two people)

f you would like a roommate to share double accommodations, please indicate this on your registration and every attempt will be made to secure a roommate.  When no roommate is available, single accommodation rates apply. 

YOGA/MEALS

Most mornings begin with yoga/movement class followed by a whole foods breakfast buffet.  All cooking classes include a delicious full course organic meal from soup to desert.  Dinners included in the program fee are provided Thursday and Monday evening.  Meals not included in the program can be ordered through the Sunglow Café.

FREE TIME

Following our morning cooking class, most afternoons are free to explore your retreat destination’s unique offerings on your own or with the group.   Free time activities include:

  • hiking around the ranch and national forest, or explore the Chiricahua National Monument and Cochise Stronghold 
  • biking (bikes supplied free of charge to Ranch guests)
  • birding
  • photography
  • star gazing
  • day trips to nearby attractions and towns, or
  • simply relaxing as you choose

GROUP EXCURSION (optional)

An optional Sunday afternoon group excursion, weather permitting, will take us over the pass in the Chiricahua Mountains where Geronimo and his band of Apaches roamed at will. We will explore Rustler Park, with its pine trees reaching hundreds of feet, and beautiful meadows and trails with views of Arizona, New Mexico and Mexico. We will travel to a small birding enclave in Portal , AZ, and view some of most stunning rock formations in the area, and walk through Dave Creek, an area filled with caves looming high above us. We will explore a century old hotel (included in the list of haunted hotels) and conclude our day with a gourmet dinner at Café Roka in Bisbee, an old mining town filled with antique shops and funky and fun experiences.

On Monday class begins in the late afternoon giving you additional time to explore the areas nearby and distant attractions.
