FREE TIME

Most afternoons are free to explore this Land of Enchantment on your own or with the group.  Santa Fe Plaza is located just 15 minutes from our Ridge Home.  In colorful Santa Fe, opportunities abound for shopping, browsing the numerous art galleries and museums, and for experiencing some of the very best in Southwest cuisine.

GROUP EXCURSION (optional)

Following class on Wednesday (weather permitting), we'll journey to Bandelier National Park in Los Alamos to visit centuries old ancestral Pueblo sites, best known for mesas, sheer-walled canyons, and several thousand ancestral Pueblo dwellings found among them.  We'll walk the Main Loop (self-guided) Trail, starting at the Visitor Center and leading through excavated archaeological sites and a spectacular (very safe) climb by ladders to a ceremonial kiva.   On our picturesque return trip, we'll have dinner (optional) in Santa Fe’s famed Café Pasqual, one of the first to blend traditional Mexican cooking with the flavors of Asia; and one of the first to make a commitment to use only organic eggs and naturally-raised beef, pork and chicken and line-caught fish, along with many delicious vegetarian entrees—a long standing favorite of Conscious Gourmet retreat participants for breakfast, lunch or dinner!

On Thursday, preceding our late afternoon cooking class and lecture, you’ll have additional time to explore the Land of Enchantment.  Santa Fe (just 15 minutes away) offers visits to marvelous museums and galleries, sophisticated shopping, and creative cuisine. For a further adventure, explore the unique culture of New Mexico and drive the High Road to Taos with its awe-inspiring scenery, legendary towns like Chimayo, and Taos Pueblo; or venture down the Turquoise Trail to the legendary ghost town of Madrid, just 25 minutes south of Santa Fe.
